The Gudenå River in the Stillness of Winter

Fall and winter give the Gudenå River a rugged and serene appearance. Whether on the Gudenå Trail, at the many lookout points, or from a kayak, you can enjoy nature’s colors and the crisp winter air. When the cold sets in, the area’s museums and attractions offer indoor experiences, while the Christmas season brings lights, cozy cafés, and cultural experiences to the towns along the river.

Experiences along the Gudenå Trail.

The Gudenå River isn’t just a summer destination. When autumn paints the landscape gold and winter brings tranquility and clear views, the Gudenå River offers other experiences.

The Gudenå Trail is perfect for hiking, while kayaking and biking let you experience nature from new perspectives. The old railroad trails, as well as Regional Route 29 between Randers and Silkeborg and Regional Route 31 between Silkeborg and Horsens, are ideal for bike rides.

On cold and rainy days, the area’s museums and cultural sites—such as Uldum Mølle, AQUA, Museum Jorn, Museum Silkeborg, the Energy Museum, Randers Rainforest, and Kulturhuset in Randers—offer indoor experiences. During the Christmas season, the towns along the Gudenå River are filled with lights, Christmas decorations, cozy cafés, and cultural events.

The Gudenå River offers experiences all year round. A walk can be followed by coffee and cake, a bike ride can end at a museum, and a day in nature can be rounded off in the warmth. It’s the combination of nature, activity, and coziness that makes fall and winter special along the Gudenå River.
