Vestbirk Hydropower Plant

In the wake of World War I, the idea of harnessing the river's waters for power generation emerged. The area around Vestbirk Garn- og Tricotagefabrik was suitable due to a large drop in the river. And the factory had even burned down in 1920. A group of local power companies therefore joined forces to create a joint company that was granted a concession to build and operate a hydropower plant.

The Rediscovered Bridge

East of Brædstrup and west of Vestbirk lies a unique tourist attraction with an incredible history. The beautiful bridge over the Gudenå River, which was hidden and (almost) forgotten for a human lifetime, is today one of the country's most popular destinations – and with good reason. The Rediscovered Bridge is a cultural gem and a piece of revived Danish history - covered by a dam for 85 years, but excavated and restored in 2014. Today, the bridge is a magnificent sight and an even greater experience. The bridge now stands as a symbol of beautiful industrial engineering, after being restored to its former glory in 2014. The red steel lattice bridge was the tallest of its kind in the Nordic region when it was built in 1899, and today it has both railings and planks for visitors to walk on, allowing them to enjoy the view of Denmark's only river, the Gudenå River.

Høj Stene

There wasn't much to see, but archaeologists from Moesgaard Museum have succeeded in finding the remains of a very large ship setting - perhaps a royal grave. It has now been reconstructed. The ship setting at Vejerslev was only known from earlier records, including an undated report believed to be from the first half of the 19th century. Here, the ship setting is described as almost 90 meters long. It is an exceptionally large ship setting, surpassed only by the much younger ship setting at Kongernes Jelling. Back in the 17th century, the site was referred to as "Høj Stene." The ancient monument has now been reconstructed, as everything had been removed many years ago.

Gudenådalen Museum

Gudenådalens Museum is the local history museum of the Bjerringbro region, featuring a permanent exhibition on agriculture, craftsmanship, and also the Viking Age. The museum's main attraction is the replicas of the 1000-year-old artifacts from the nearby Mammen site - the axe and the two "mankestole" (stools), items from a grave - likely belonging to a Viking chieftain. Additionally, the museum houses a small park with runestones since the area between Bjerringbro and Randers is one of the areas in Denmark where the most runestones have been found. The story Historically, Ulstrup Manor can be traced back to the end of the 14th century, when the Brandsen family is said to have built the first farm. Jens Nielsen (Løvenbalk), Aunsbjerg, received Ulstrup in pledge in 1404 and two years later parts of the estate were granted to Queen Margrete. Access to the castle grounds and park is available during the annual events.
