In a motorboat on Gudenåen

Where are you allowed to motorboat?

Motorboats are allowed between Klostermølle and Silkeborg – with a few exceptions. Get your bearings before you go. There are different speed limits.

On the stretch between Silkeborg and Kongensbro, only lake owners are allowed to sail in motorboats, while a permit from Gudenåcentralen is required to sail in a motorboat on Tange Sø.

Between Gudenåcentralen and Randers you can sail in a motorboat – the speed limit is 5 knots.

Your boat needs to be registered

All motorized vessels must be registered in the Gudenå boat register before launching in the Gudenå system. This is done via the website www.sejladspaagudenaaen.dk.

There are 2 types of registration:

Fixed registration

If you live, have a holiday home or permanent mooring in a Gudenå municipality (Randers, Viborg, Favrskov, Silkeborg, Skanderborg, Horsens or Hedensted municipalities), you can apply for a permanent registration. Registration must be renewed every year. Price: DKK 200 annual fee per vessel. Please allow for processing time. Note: Once the application has been processed, you will be provided with the registration number of your vessel.

Guest registration

If you are visiting the Gudenås system for a shorter period of time or do not meet the requirements for a permanent registration, you can purchase a guest registration. Price: DKK 75 per vessel – registration is valid for 14 days. No processing time – the guest registration number can be printed directly. A registration number – regardless of type – consists of a combination of letters and numbers. Remember that the registration number must be applied before launching
the bow of the boat on both sides.

The municipalities and police control boat registration, among other things. Sailing without a registration number on your boat, or if the annual fee has not been paid, is subject to a DKK 1000 fine.

The registration requirement ceases downstream of Randers Bridge.
